Perhaps the best way of explaining our mission is to tell you about the figure you see in the right menu bar on our website pages. This image was adapted from a drawing of Xuanzang, a seventh century Chinese monk who completed a sixteen-year epic journey to the holy places of Buddhism. Traveling overland it took him two years to reach India, where he became a student of philosophy at the famous Nalanda University.
When he returned to China, he was able to take important Buddhist texts with him. During the final twenty years of his life he translated these texts and had many students, among them the emperor of China.
Insight Travel has adopted Xuanzang as its symbol because we believe that he represents the finest example of the pilgrims path. For more information you may wish to refer to the book:
Xuanzang: A Buddhist Pilgrim on the Silk Road by Sally Hovey Wriggins.
